The scope of work on this project was to construct a double storey boarding establishment at St Charles College in Pietermaritzburg. Several challenges needed to be overcome in the security of the site as the school would continue functioning during the construction period.
The first part of the project was earthworks for preparing of the building which had pad and lintel foundations. The walls were a combination of facebrick or brick and plaster. The slab was a block and lintel with the staircase being in situ. The floors were a mix of carpets and tiles with aluminium windows and doors. Heat pumps were installed for the hot water system and the roof was a wooden truss and tiles.
