Nicon Lovu River Bridge

The scope of work for this project was the construction of a 45m long  four span reinforced concrete road over river bridge and the realignment of the L637 district road.

The key focus on the project was managing the river to enable the contractor to undertake the construction of the substructure foundations, piers, abutments and the deck, whilst adhering to strict environmental regulations. The underlying rock was reached at a depth of 2 meters below normal river level. This necessitated that the northern abutment and two of the piers be constructed first whilst the river was diverted by means of a large earth berm. The berm also served as a temporary river crossing for plant, vehicles and the local population.
