Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal congratulates Excellence Awards recipients in all categories. Special congratulations go to our Supreme Winner Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN for Ellerines Warehouse.
The annual Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal Excellence in Construction awards dinner is the premier gala event at which KwaZulu-Natal construction companies showcase their work, celebrate their achievements, and gain recognition for the buildings they have created that enrich the lives of others.
On Friday 2 August 2013, the prestigious annual event took place at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Centre where the Association played host to 330 guests, including the competition entrants, industry stakeholders, government representatives and members of the media.
When the excellence programme was initiated by Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal in 2004, it was the first of its kind for a South African Building Association and set the example for others to follow. The KwaZulu-Natal programme remains unique in that the team of adjudicators are made up of industry veterans who collectively have a wealth of experience to draw on. Each project entered is evaluated on construction methodology used, as well as the quality of the end product.
Categories range from projects valued at under R1m to projects exceeding R40m. This allows all Members of the Association the opportunity to compete, regardless of size or scope of their operation. The awards provide deserved winners with a symbol of tangible credibility which particularly for the smaller contractors, acts as a powerful marketing tool which can lead to bigger and more exciting ventures.
Mr Mogamat Behardien, President of the Association stated that the Building industry prides itself on maintaining standards and that the Association has paved the road towards building excellence. He further stated that in its quest to take builders on a journey of excellence, the Association has initiated an Emerging Contractor Programme which they are confident, will produce Excellence Award winners in the years to come.
Vikashnee Harbhajan, Executive Director of Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal reiterated that Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal prides itself on recognising excellence in the industry and therefore remain committed to mobilising their members into a mode of building excellence, thereby contributing significant value to the industry.
There were three special awards this year:
Andrew James Macdonald Stewart received the Award of Merit for his positive contribution to the industry.
The annual award for Women in Construction went to Bronwyn Lee from Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN.
The Supplier of the year was awarded to RMD Kwikform.
This year there were 34 entries from 17 companies, with projects ranging over a widely spread area. It was observed that despite the apparent lack of skilled artisans, work of an exceptionally high standard continues to be produced. The drivers of these projects were committed to delivering outstanding work and their passion for excellence is portrayed in the end product.
Hein Wagner World Blind land speed record holder, delivered an astounding address at the awards ceremony which was truly inspiring.
The Executive Director encourages all Members of the Association to continue striving for excellence!
